Need to Read #16: Scarlet Pimpernel

Title: Scarlet Pimpernel

Author: Baroness Orczy

Book blurb: Armed with only his wits and his cunning, one man recklessly defies the French revolutionaries and rescues scores of innocent men, women, and children from the deadly guillotine. His friends and foes know him only as the Scarlet Pimpernel. But the ruthless French agent Chauvelin is sworn to discover his identity and to hunt him down.

Quick endorsement: SP lovers unite! This story has all the best elements – high adventure, romance, suspense, intrigue, true love, mystery, and more! If you are an Austen fan, give this book a try. It’s not real similar, but utterly delightful. Definitely recommended!

Katelyn, the '82 version is the only one I've seen so far, but I did love it! Such a good one. :) I would like to see the other someday as well, though Mom has mentioned that it's not as good. Thanks for the website link!

Rachel, which movie did you see? Definitely read the book, it's worth it and not hard. :)

Rissi, depends which movie...you should try the book too! :)

I saw the 1934 version and enjoyed it. I will add it to the list of books to read!

I saw the 1982 version, and then read the book. I really liked both stories, but it's so hard to compare them because the plotlines are so different!

Excellent read! :D

Rachel, I didn't even realize there was a 1934 version...I'll have to look that up at some point!

Kiri Liz, the 1982 version is great. :) It actually incorporates some material from another Scarlet Pimpernel sequel book that Baroness Orczy wrote...which is why the story is so different. :)
