Birthday: Laura Ingalls Wilder

Laura Ingalls Wilder

Birth: February 7, 1867

Death: February 10, 1957

It’s her 145th birthday!

You know her because – she wrote the hugely popular Laura Ingalls Wilder books about her childhood. Who hasn’t heard of Laura and Mary and their good old bulldog, Jack?

I think our books used to look like that...but now they have been greatly loved, and don't look quite as nice as at first.

  1. That was my favorite book series as a child, and she is still one of my favorite authors. I have the complete series both in paperback and hardback.

I love the Laura Ingalls Wilder books. My older sister read them to me when we were kids. I started reading them to my daughter, but when she found out they left the Big Woods in the second book, she lost interest. She's five, so I'm holding out hope that she'll want to finish them when she's older.

My hometown is about 15 minutes from Mansfield, Missouri, and the Wilder Museum. I've toured her house and the museum. They are amazing. If you're ever in SW Missouri, it's definitely worthwhile for a fan.

  4. I used to read this whole series to my daughters every winter. And now, my daughter is reading Little House in the Big Woods to her three year old daughter. And my granddaughter is sitting still for it and REQUESTING it.
    It's like a family tradition.

  5. Carissa, they're wonderful books!

Andrea, my little sister listens to the books on tape ALL the time. She just turned eight...I think she's been through them four times. How cool that you've been to those museums! I'm envious. Someday...

    Katelyn, no problem!

Mary, good to see you here! Oh, how sweet. :) These books are perfect for family traditions.
