Birthday: Hilaire Belloc

Hilaire Belloc

Birth: July 27, 1870
Death: July 16, 1953
It’s his 142nd birthday!
You know him because – he wrote some very interesting poems. If you haven’t heard of him, that’s not too shocking. See one of his poems below. It’s more of a nice poem than the one I was thinking of – check out Matilda.

The Yak by Hilaire Belloc
As a friend to children, commend me the Yak;
You will find it exactly the thing;
It will carry and fetch, you can ride on its back,
Or lead it about with a string.

The Tartar who dwells on the plains of Thibet
(A desolate region of snow),
Has for centuries made it a nursery pet,
And surely the Tartar should know!

Then  tell your papa where the Yak can be got,
And if he is awfully rich,
He will buy you the creature – or else he will not
(I cannot be positive which).

  2. "Matilda" is certainly a very amusing one and rather drastic!

Hi! I'm delighted you're leaving a comment! Thank you so much - comments make my day. Just make sure that yours is polite, free of bad language, and that it honors God. :) I will probably not reply to your comment, much as I would love to - my life is simply for too busy. Sorry! But again, thanks for commenting.
