My overall opinion: It was a good book and I enjoyed it. Not a hard read, but interesting.

My overall opinion: Allow me to emphasize that this is a book for mature people. I'm gonna be straight forward here: in the first few chapters, Hannah (an Amish girl) is raped. The entire book is her struggling to overcome the after-effects of this. Which is why it's quite mature. However, it was a good book and I recommend it to older readers! Oh, and the romance. She does have a guy in her life, but that's not really the emphasis of the book, and there is no marriage/engagement at the end of the book. If that makes any sense...you rather have to read it to understand.

Thicker Than Blood

Author: C. J. Darlington

Genre: Adventure/mystery/conversion

Series: Well, its sequel is Bound by Guilt, but it's said to be a "stand-alone" sequel. So.

Exciting events: This book is full of them!!

Passage from book: Christy Williams didn't see the cop until his red lights flashed in her rearview mirror. By then it was too late. He was tailing her, and she had no choice but to ease her Honda Accord onto the snowy shoulder of the freeway and let the cruiser slide in behind.

My overall opinion: And so it begins...a wonderfully exciting story! This is Darlington's first book and I think y'all should read it! A delightful book.

New Banners!

Elegance of Fashion (find her blog here) has recently created some more wonderful banners! These first ones are my favorites, since they're from some of my favorite movies. :) Oh, and you can click on the banners to see them larger. For those of you (though I doubt there are many) who don't recognize it, it's Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice, and then Elizabeth and Darcy.

She also made one of Sherlock Holmes. I haven't seen the movies, but the books are very good.

The next new one is from Oliver Twist. I haven't seen the movie either (though I once tried to read the book) but for some reason I really like it. Maybe it's the colors...I'm not sure. But any way you look at it, Elegance of Fashion is great at making these!

Dancing Under the Red Star

My overall opinion: It was an interesting book. She was an American girl (about 18), living temporarily in Russia with her family, and was captured and taken for a spy. She wasn't one, but served 10 years for the assumption. It's obviously post-Holocaust, but still reminded me strongly of the concentration and death camps for Jews. Another interesting thing is that it's written in first person, but it was her son who wrote it. But just reading it, you'd think it was an auto-bio!
