Katherine Jenkins: Other Good Songs

Katherine’s voice is so beautiful. I only own one complete album by her (Rejoice) but that album…well, I could put all those songs down as favorites. And I also own a random assortment of other songs, and you’re about to get a sampling.

Abide with Me
Down to the River
Who Wants to Live Forever
Ancora Non Sai

Be My Love
Bring Me to Life

Granada
I Believe (with Andrea Bocelli)(not sure what to think of her dress...)

I Vow to Thee My Country
Music of the Night
Time to Say Goodbye
Rejoice (some especial immodesty in video :P)

How Do You Leave the One You Love
Kiss From a Rose
I Will Pray for You

Again, they’re all worth buying! You’ll love them, promise. That’s 15 songs out of 54…or every 3.6 songs is a favorite. I had trouble narrowing it down even that far! Great songs, all of them.

CD: This is Christmas

Singer: Katherine Jenkins

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type of music: Operatic (lovely!)

List of songs:
  1. O Come, O Come Emmanuel
  2. In Dulci Jubilo
  3. Away in a Manger
  4. The Christmas Song (Chesnuts)
  5. Santa Baby
  6. Deck the Halls
  7. Sleep Quietly, My Jesus
  8. I Wish You Christmas
  9. Hark the Herald Angels Sing
  10. Come What May (with Placido Domingo)

My overall opinion: I had high hopes when I ordered this CD, and they were not disappointed! It's beautiful and touching and perfect for Christmas. My absolute favorites would have to be "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," "The Christmas Song," and "Deck the Halls." With the first being the absolute best of them all.

I love "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and it may end up being my favorite song (and this my favorite singer/song) of the Christmas season! It's so beautiful that when she reached the chorus (the most amazing part) I got goose-bumps! If you don't get the CD, at least get the Mp3 of this song. As to "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting)...I just really like that song and she does a great job. And "Deck the Halls" can hardly fail to make you smile -- Katherine Jenkins really flies through it, in an articulate and crisp and dazzling manner.

Track 5, "Santa Baby," is done nicely, but I didn't enjoy it as much. I think it's because it felt out of character, especially after "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." She does sing it very expressively -- rather cool. And Track 10, "Come What May" with Placido Domingo, didn't really strike me as Christmasy. Not that it isn't beautiful! But it is more a love song than a Christmas song. Rather operatic romance.

If you've enjoyed other Katherine Jenkins' CDs, you'll love this one! I highly recommend it. It's just over 30 minutes long, so its easy to listen to multiple times!

Biography: Katherine Jenkins

Today will be great...Katherine Jenkins is an amazing singer!

Katherine Jenkins was born on June 29, 1980, in Wales. For some years (1991 to 1996) she sang with the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers. At 17, she won a scholarship for the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied. In 2000, age 20, she entered a modeling competition and became the Face of Wales.

She was obviously a little excited about that. :) After that, she signed on with Universal, and six of her seven albums between 2004 and 2008 hit the #1 spot on UK classical charts. In recent years, Katherine has had numerous concerts and appeared in several movies and/or TV shows. Now, about those albums..

Second Nature was her second album, and included songs like En Aranjuez Con Tu Amor and Time to Say Goodbye.

Her fourth album was Serenade and it has quite a few songs I'm familiar with and love: O Mio Babbino Caro, Be My Love, The Prayer, Granada, and more.

The only album I own in CD form (other than her Christmas ones) is this, the fifth one, Rejoice. If you are looking to buy one, I would whole-heartedly recommend this one! It has such beautiful songs...my favorites are Rejoice, How Do You Leave the One You Love, Kiss From a Rose, ... and all the rest of the CD. :)

Sacred Arias included Abide with Me and Down to the River to Pray, along with Hallelujah and Panis Angelicus.

Believe also has beautiful songs -- it was her 2009 album. And in 2011, she came out with Daydream, but I haven't heard any of those songs yet. This Christmas, This is Christmas came out -- beautiful. And also make sure you hear her other Christmas album as well.

Song: Down to the River

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Singer: Katherine Jenkins
Type of music: Sleepy, sort-of. Calming.
Length: 2:59
Lyrics: As I went down to the river to pray // Study about that good old way, // and who shall wear the golden crown, // Good Lord, carry me through. Oh sisters, let's go down // let's go down, come on down, // oh sisters, let's go down, // down in the river to pray.
My overall opinion: It's a song that'll put you to sleep at night, being both repetitive and rather quiet. I like it. :) Check for it on youtube.
