Revell Blog Tour: Deceived

Author: Irene Hannon

Genre: Suspense, romance, adventure

Series: Private Justice

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 408

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: Wow! Irene Hannon has hit another one out of the park with this splendid novel! It’s the 10th book of hers that I’ve read, and she hasn’t ceased to delight me. This book was certainly not an exception! Again, she managed to pack each page with suspense and constant action, pulled together with a sweet dose of romance and plenty of love – and not just the romantic kind, but that of a mother for her child. I savored every page. I was never sure where the story would end up next, except that I knew it had to end happily – because Irene’s books do. Trust me, I would be heart-broken if they didn’t. The ending did not disappoint! I’m sorry to see this series end. Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of romantic suspense. I can’t wait for “Buried Secrets,” her next book!

**Revell sent me a free copy of this book in return for my honest review. I was not recompensed for this review, nor was I required to write positively. All opinions are my own honest ones.

Revell Blog Tour: Nowhere to Hide

Author: Lynette Eason

Genre: Suspense, romance

Series: Hidden Identity

Number in series: 2nd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 314

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: Wow. Another keeper book from Lynette Eason! It was this author who wrote
the first romantic suspense that I read, and she has remained the first author that I mention when friends ask for recommendations. I’ve read a number of her books and thoroughly enjoyed each one – Nowhere to Turn was no exception! This is a book that will definitely be remaining on my keeper shelf. Her heroine is awesome; the bad guys are through-and-through villains; the hero is everything a hero should be. From the first page to the last, this book had me hooked and I read it in just one sitting! I wish I had time to share the entire first page here with you – it starts with action, and that doesn’t stop. I was there with the characters in each scene. I highly recommend this book (and others by Lynette) to any reader who hasn’t given her a try yet!

**I was in no way compensated for this review. These are my personal and honest opinions.

Silenced

Author: Dani Pettrey

Genre: Suspense, romance, adventure

Series: Alaskan Courage

Number in series: 4th

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 327

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Bethany House, $14.99

My overall opinion: Once again, Dani delivers breath-taking suspense woven perfectly with mesmerizing action and a delightful romance, all wrapping up in a satisfying conclusion. (I feel really professional after that sentence – and this sentence just took all professionalism.) But seriously. It’s all true. I love the McKenna family and all their stories, and meeting up with my favorite characters from previous books is delightful. Love especially Bailey and Darcy! :) Anyway. Back to my review. I could NOT put this book down – almost literally. I read it all in one day and was tied to it the whole time. Dani is an amazing author and one of my favorite authors hands-down. I can’t wait for book 5!

**Dani actually sent me a copy of this book, but I wasn’t required to review it, much less positively. I wasn’t paid for this review in any way. All opinions are my own.**

Dangerous Passage

Author: Lisa Harris

Genre: Suspense, romance, adventure

Series: Southern Crimes

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 320

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: I was just randomly browsing at the library when I came across this one. I had heard about it in the blogosphere when it came out in fall of 2013, so I decided to give it a try. Sure am glad I did! Lisa’s book is a delight to read. She is definitely moving up in the wonderful world of suspense! If you’ve enjoyed other Christian suspense books (by Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, etc), give her a shot. It was a great mystery, sweet romance, and very good book. Funny thing: this book had for main characters two girls, Tory and Avery. Now the weird thing for me is that I know two guys here at school – with those exact names. Remembering that the book ones were girls was tough! Ha, but yeah. All in all? A good book that I don’t hesitate to recommend.

Looking forward to the next one!

Revell Blog Tour: No One to Trust

Author: Lynette Eason

Genre: Suspense, romance

Series: Hidden Identity

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 330

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: After you read a lot, romantic suspense can become a bit stereotypical. But not this one! Wow! It was jam-packed with thrilling and creative twists and turns. Amazing, and quite enthralling! This is a memorable book filled with page-turning adventures. It’s a must-read and must-own for suspense lovers, and has earned a permanent place on my keepers shelf! I loved the characters, and can’t wait to continue the series. Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of Lynette Eason, of course, or Dani Petterey, Irene Hannon, Dee Henderson, etc.

**I reviewed this book as part of the Revell blog tour, and they sent me a free copy of it. However, I wasn’t required to post positively, and received no other compensation.**

TV Show: Psych Season 2

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Genre: Crime, mystery, suspense

Series or set: Psych

Number in series: 2nd

Primary actors: James Roday, Dule Hill, Timothy Omundson

Length: 16 episodes, each 45 minutes

Time period: Present

Quote(s): There was that awesome moment when Gus’s head was described as a chocolate covered honeydew… ;)

Rating: TV-PG

Year it came out: 2007

My overall opinion: Honestly, who doesn’t love Psych?! This season was no exception. We watched a dozen episodes in two days and it never got old, at least, not to me. Gus and Shawn have the best friendship ever, and they’re comical. Jules is delightful, and really – all the episodes just make me happy. :) Look out, there are occasionally a few swear words, crude jokes, or slightly inappropriate scenes thrown in – however, these are fairly rare and this show is well-worth your time.

TV Show: Psych Season 1

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Genre: Crime, mystery, suspense

Series or set: Psych

Number in series: 1st

Primary actors: James Roday, Dule Hill, Timothy Omundson

Length: 15 episodes, each 45 minutes

Time period: Present

Rating: TV-PG

Year it came out: 2006

My overall opinion: This show is one of my favorites. Up until this point, I had only seen most of Season 7, so it was really neat to go back to Season 1 and find out all the beginnings! There are occasionally scenes (or words) that could have been left out, but for the most part, Psych is clean and full of good fun. The mysteries are awesome, and I laughed so much throughout this season – I love it!

Blog Tour: Stranded

Author: Dani Pettrey

Genre: Suspense

Series: Alaskan Courage

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 342

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Bethany House, $14.99

My overall opinion: Oh so good! Once again, I really loved the setting for this book. Alaska is amazing and I love it there! Dani does a great job describing it all. And also once again, I loved the McKenna family. Getting reacquainted with them was awesome. Darcy and Gage’s story was no disappointment! So much sweetness. And the interaction with the previous couples (Bailey and Cole from Submerged and Piper and Landon from Shattered) was great! I love them all. I can’t wait to read about the remaining McKenna siblings. This is a book well-worth buying!

**Thanks to Dani Pettrey for my copy of this book. I wasn’t required to post a positive review, and wasn’t recompensed in any way for this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Revell Blog Tour: Trapped

Author: Irene Hannon

Genre: Suspense

Series: Private Justice

Number in series: 2nd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 393

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: This. This was a stunning sequel to Vanished, the first book in the series. James Devlin aka Dev quickly stole my heart and I had no problem whatsoever understanding why Laura fell for him in just a few days. And speaking of Laura, she was pretty awesome! I really liked her. Like other books by Irene Hannon, this one was packed with excitement and suspense, and although there were a few parts that I felt were rather predictable, there were still plenty of unexpected twists and turns throughout. I enjoyed this one SO much and am so glad I got to read it! You definitely should be keeping an eye for it if you aren’t yet. I’m super excited to read Deceived, coming in summer 2014!

**Thank you to Revell for my review copy. I wasn’t required to post positively, nor was I paid in any way for this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

Trinity: Military War Dog

Author: Ronie Kendig

Genre: Adventure, suspense, war, life

Series: A Breed Apart

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 347

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Barbour, $12.99

My overall opinion: So I actually started this book way back in February, and was initially a little disappointed. I’d seen SO many people that I love raving about it, and at first, to be completely honest, it was a good book, but I wasn’t loving it like I’d hoped to. I read about 60 pages, then had to put it down…and wasn’t able to pick it up again until now due to heaps of books for review.

But then. This month. One afternoon I finally had a little down-time from review books, so I picked it up again, jumped back in…and was swept away. Wow. The action was non-stop, whipping through scenes in a very readable way. This is a war story that has alarming suspense (just what suspense should be!) and sweet romance (oh so sweet), all set in the Middle East. This book is definitely heart-pounding, and sure to keep you reading! I know, I was able to put it down at first…and you know? It may have just been my mood that day. But if the beginning feels slow to you, don’t worry – it picks up and flies in no time. By the end, I liked it so much that there are two things to note. 1. I gave it a 9.5. And 2. I promptly wrote the publisher and begged for a copy of Talon to review. And you know what? They sent it to me! Now I just have to start it. :) I’m definitely looking forward to reading more by Ronie!

**I know this is a popular book for review, but I went and bought my copy. As usual, all opinions are my own and no one was making me write a positive review.**

Revell Blog Tour: When a Secret Kills

Author: Lynette Eason

Genre: Suspense

Series: Deadly Reunions

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 345

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

Passage from book: “Jillian hunkered down behind the desk. She’d managed to knock the old-fashioned handset off the hook onto the desk. She just prayed someone heard the shot and called the police…”

My overall opinion: Let’s just say I spent the entire book on pins and needles. The End. Nope, not enough. It was a great book! What a stunningly grand finale this one is to the Deadly Reunions series! As you may recall, I’ve now read six books by Lynette, with the first in this series (When the Smoke Clears) being my favorite of them all…until I read this one. Which ties with book 1. Both unbelievably good.

As readers of the first books in the series will hopefully remember, each book has its own complete suspense story, and yet through both of the first two, there’s also a bit of suspense building around a central event and person…and that doesn’t get cleared up until this book. It’s a story in itself, but trust me – you’ll be glad to know the characters and the background from the first two books, so read them all! So worth it. :)

So yes…Lynette Eason has done it again. Written yet another suspense that will keep you reading late into the night. There are few suspense books that can aspire to be this good! If you ask me about my favorite suspense authors, I have several to mention – but Lynette was the first I found, and is always the first to come to mind. The cover of this particular book is SO neat – the blue and purple and white, the brown eyes, the dark hair…all of it. According to the back of the book, it’s “spine-tingling” and “nail-biting.” Yup. It’s true. Loved the characters (especially Colton, aka, the hero) and the story was very suspenseful as I’ve mentioned. Love!

*Available May 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.*

**Revell sent me a copy of this book in return for my honest review. I wasn’t required to review it positively, nor was I recompensed for this review in any way other than the book. I really did love it. :) **

Submerged

Author: Dani Pettrey

Genre: Suspense

Series: Alaskan Courage

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 313

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Bethany House, $14.99

My overall opinion: After reading and enjoying “Shattered” for the blog tour, I decided I needed to read the first book in the series. I finally convinced the library to get it…and can we say – New Favorite Book! Wow, it was so good. The first half? Yup, awesome. The second half? Beyond belief amazing. Now, a few things that stood out to me…the cover. Pretty cool. If you look close, you’ll note that the model had on mascara, which is now smearing in streaks down her face. Which I think is super cool because as any girl who’s ever gotten wet with un-water-proof-mascara on knows…that’s exactly what it does. Makes this cover real to me!

Once again, I loved the Alaska setting. It’s an amazing place, and I love it up there – reading books set there is a delight! Cole and Bailey too were such a delight to read about. I loved them both! And yes, I’m overusing the word love/d. ;) The suspense was super suspenseful, and the adventures and excitement were simply stunning. I also really loved getting to know Piper a bit in this book! I feel like I need to read “Shattered” again and see them all again now that I know them better! There were some very unique and fascinating settings – and concepts for the story as well. I was riveted the whole way through. I’m considering buying this one (despite the fact that the library now has it), but even if I decide not to buy it myself, I’ll be requesting it for my birthday or Christmas. It was THAT good!

Lethal Legacy

Author: Irene Hannon

Genre: Suspense, adventure

Series: Guardians of Justice

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 351

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: I’ve waited for months to read this – ever since it came out. And it was totally worth it. SO good. If I’d known I’d enjoy it this much, I would have gone ahead and splurged on the money to buy it! Cause this is a book worth buying. Absolutely jam packed with gripping suspense that kept me riveted the whole way through. There was some sweet romance as well, but it wasn’t overmuch or overdone. I love the writing. If you’ve enjoyed suspense, romantic suspense, or any book by Irene, Lynette Eason, Dani Pettrey, Dee Henderson…give this one a try!

(Randomly, the cover...that girl? She looks remarkably like the girl in the TV show, Legend of the Seeker. Might even be the same...?)

Tyndale Blog Tour: Avenged

Author: Janice Cantore

Genre: Adventure, suspense

Series: Pacific Coast Justice

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 390

Time period: Present

Publisher and price: Tyndale, $12.99

My overall opinion: After requesting this book from Tyndale for review, I discovered Book 2 (Abducted) for free on Kindle. Since it had been on my to-read list for quite some time, I snatched it up and eagerly read it. While it wasn’t my new favorite suspense book, I did enjoy it – and am really glad that I got to read it before this one! They go together wonderfully, and I haven’t a doubt that the first pulls them all completely together. I enjoyed this one more than the second one. Incidentally, I happened to notice on the back cover that it’s categorized as a Christian romance – that’s definitely not what I’d call it. The couple who stars in the series was married by the first book, and part of what the series chronicles is their marriage’s survival/life. However, there isn’t overly much detail and it’s certainly not a super-romantic book.

Now, on to the other things about Avenged. The book had an accurate feel to it, and the action was good. However, both with this one and Abducted, I found myself disappointed with the suspense as I was hoping for an author to rank with Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon, and Dani Pettrey. I think that Janice is a good author, and has great promise – but she’s not a new favorite suspense author for me. Good books, yes. Favorite suspense, no. However, like I said, it was completely clean, good, and interesting! I have absolutely no problem recommending it to other readers. One thing I really liked about it was that it’s the same couple through the entire three book series. Of course, it helped that Carly and Nick were characters that I really enjoyed. Overall? This book and series is good, but not a
top favorite for me.

**Tyndale sent me a copy of this book in return for my honest review. I received no other compensation. All opinions and thoughts are my own. I was not required to post a positive review.**

Litfuse Blog Tour: Shattered

Author: Dani Pettrey

Genre: Adventure, suspense

Series: Alaskan Courage series

Number in series: 2nd (the first was Submerged, which I haven’t yet had the chance to read)

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 364

Time period: Present

My overall opinion: I had a feeling I might like this book from the very beginning…definitely wasn’t disappointed. From the moment I saw that a bunch of authors I was familiar with had written the endorsements, I had a good feeling. Which authors, you ask? They included Dee Henderson (I’ve read a few, didn’t love, but good), Ronie Kendig (haven’t read any yet, but know by reputation), DiAnn Mills (great), Lynette Eason (a favorite!), and Irene Hannon (stunning and wonderful). The cover alone is amazing! The letters that spell out the cover are sunk in, and when you look at them, appear filled with ice. Super neat. This book can be read as a stand-alone (which is what I did), but is probably more enjoyable if you read the series in order. Shattered included a great suspenseful mystery, a mesmerizing setting (I heart Alaska), and delightful characters. You won’t guess all the plot turns in this mystery! Skillfully entwined romance complements the suspense beautifully. I definitely recommend this book for all Christian suspense readers!

**Litfuse Publicity Group supplied me with this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to post a positive review, nor was I paid in any way other than the book.**

Where Treasure Hides

Author: Johnnie Alexander Donley

Genre: Suspense, adventure

Series: I hear that Johnnie is working on the sequel…

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Historical fiction

Number of pages: I read it as a PDF.

Time period: 1930s, 1940s, World War II

My overall opinion: Wow. Was I ever impressed! See, I requested this book from the author without a lot of research about it first. I knew I loved the cover, and the story sounded interesting enough. So I didn’t realize it was a digital book until Johnnie wrote back asking what kind of file I wanted to read it from. My hopes for it immediately dropped, I admit. My automatic reaction to a digital book is that they’re just digital for a reason…hate to say it, but they’ve usually got inferior writing. However! That was most decidedly not the case here. This book deserves to be in a physical paperback form! The cover and the story are both worth it. It’s set, as you saw, in World War II. Fascinating era. I read it mostly in the evening, and was so excited to come back to it every night. It’s an unforgettable story! Absolutely packed with intrigue and excitement – trust me, you won’t be able to stop if you’re trying to limit yourself. It’s not overly romantic, but enough to keep you reading. If you can get this one, or see a giveaway for it, definitely do. It’s a page turner…in a digital way. Thrilling, intense, heart-warming – all in one book. I highly recommend it especially for anyone who likes historical fiction!

**The author sent me a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I have reviewed it honestly. I wasn’t required to post a positive review, and all opinions are my own.**

Ring of Secrets

Author: Roseanna M. White

Genre: Mystery, adventure, suspense

Series: Culper Ring series

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5 high

Type: Historical fiction

Number of pages: 337

Time period: 1700s (specifically, Revolutionary War)

My overall opinion: What a wonderful opening to a new series by Roseanna M. White! I haven’t read just a whole lot of books set in the Revolutionary War, so I was looking forward immensely to the this book and to the upcoming ones. While I did end up preferring Roseanna’s Biblical fiction (the only one I’ve read is Jewel of Persia [click on title to read my review], and I loved it!), this book was very enjoyable as well. It’s a spy story through and through, with suspense and mystery blended seamlessly. The heroine, a girl named Winter, was someone easy to identify and empathize with, and the story felt very real and accurate. It was clear the Roseanna must have done some serious research for this book, and no doubt, series! However, just because a book is historically accurate doesn’t mean it’s boring, right? Avid readers know this. The historical accuracy and realistic characters didn’t detract from the story in the least. There were even a few real historical characters too! Always a good thing. This is a delightful story that will make the Culper Ring (the spy ring the story centers on and is named after) ever memorable.

**I received this book from Harvest House Publishers in return for an honest review. I was not obligated to post a positive review, nor was I recompensed for this review in any way. All opinions and thoughts are my own.**

Number in series: 1st

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 328

Passage from book: {{Not posting one now, but coming soon (later today) an interview with the author, where you can learn a lot more about the book!}}

Enjoy Christian suspense? Have you read and loved anything by Lynette Eason? If so, it’s guaranteed you’ll enjoy this one. I can’t wait to read the next book (Trapped, coming in October). There’s not a slow minute in the entire book. Prepare to have your heart pound – you’ll be wowed. Vanished is a must-have book, more than worth buying!
