Revell Blog Tour: A Reluctant Courtship

Author: Laurie Alice Eakes

Genre: Life, romance, adventure

Series: Daughters of Bainbridge House

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5 high

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 357

Time period: 1800s

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: What a delightful read this book was! It’s an elegant story, full of entertaining mishaps and adventures – and never a slow moment to be found! I really loved the English settings and the mystery threaded throughout definitely made this story a winter. The humor was awesome too – just enough to keep me smiling without overpowering the book. If you’ve enjoyed Julie Klassen or Lori Wick, give this book a try. It was well-worth my time, and I think you’ll enjoy it too!

**Available October 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.**

**Revell was so kind as to send me a copy of this book in return for my honest review. I wasn’t compensated in any other way for this review, nor did I have to speak positively. I’m sorry for posting it later than the blog tour – school had to take precedence.**

Cover Focus: A Flight of Fancy

A Flight of Fancy by Laurie Alice Eakes

Book blurb from goodreads.com : Cassandra Bainbridge has twice set aside her scholarly pursuits--once for the London Season and once for her wedding preparations. Love seems a wonderful alternative to study, until disaster strikes. When an accident brings an end to her betrothal, she heads for the country to recover from both her injuries and her broken heart. There she pursues her love for ballooning and envisions a future for herself as a daring aeronaut. But when her former fiancé slips back into her life, what course will she choose?
Filled with the mystique of London society and the charming beauty of the English countryside, A Flight of Fancy explores what it means to find the true source of happiness and love amid the distractions of life. Readers will love the next installment in this rousing Regency series from accomplished author Laurie Alice Eakes.

Why I like this cover: If you ask me (which I know, you didn’t), it looks exactly like a flight of fancy to me. Cassandra’s fanciful expression and dark curls go perfectly with it all. And that dress is so pretty! The pink frills and rosette are adorable (and definitely flighty), and the dark pink skirt section that appears to mostly just cover the back is perfect. And the gloves! What I wouldn’t give for a pair of gloves just like that… Even the way she’s holding her arm contributes distinctly to the overall effect! And of course, the balloons in the background are perfect for the flight theme. I love those balloons, by the way…especially the blue and gold one. The fancy capital F’s are beautiful – and not the same, but they go together! I don’t quite like the aqua blue that is behind Laurie Alice Eakes’ name…seems to me a pink or gold would have been better. Other than that, I love it! Looks like a fun and even funny book. :)

Cover Focus: Lady in the Mist

Lady in the Mist by Laurie Alice Eakes

Book blurb from goodreads.com : “By virtue of her profession as a midwife, Tabitha Eckles is the keeper of many secrets: the names of fathers of illegitimate children, the level of love and harmony within many a marriage, and now the identity of a man who may have caused his wife's death. Dominick Cherrett is a man with his own secret to keep: namely, what he, a British nobleman, is doing on American soil working as a bondsman in the home of Mayor Kendall, a Southern gentleman with his eye on a higher office.

By chance one morning before the dawn has broken, Tabitha and Dominick cross paths on a misty beachhead, leading them on a twisted path through kidnappings, death threats, public disgrace, and . . . love? Can Tabitha trust Dominick? What might he be hiding? And can either of them find true love in a world that seems set against them?

With stirring writing that puts readers directly into the story, Lady in the Mist expertly explores themes of identity, misperception, and love's discovery.”

Why I like this cover: I don’t think that I think this cover uncommonly pretty…but it’s unique. The goldish green colors in the background are interesting. And the cottage. There’s even a little path leading up to it! I believe that her loose hair isn’t necessarily correct for the time period, but it sure is nice. I love her blue cloak…wish I had one! That color of royal blue is amazing. And the little clasp that’s holding it together! It looks like she’s just wearing a simple white dress underneath. I think she’s carrying something in her hands…maybe a basket? I do like this cover. Again, this is a book I haven’t read yet, but I’ve read good reviews and recommend it!
