My Favorite Musicals

Welcome to Day One of A Week of Musicals! I’m so excited for this week. As you’ve already seen, there’ll be days dedicated to four separate musical stars (that include biographical posts, Spotights, and more), along with guest posts, my posts, a few reviews, and a giveaway (that’s unrelated to musicals but is still awesome). Without further ado, let’s begin!

I chose three musicals to include in this favorite musicals post…and here they are. :)

Brigadoon

This was one of the first musicals I watched and it has endured as one of my favorites. It’s my favorite Gene Kelly film too! The songs are catchy and memorable, the Scottish accents delightful, the costumes adorable. I love the romance, the excitement, the mystery. It’s wonderful!

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

This is the other musical that I saw way back when…one of my first ones. It’s definitely a classic, more so than Brigadoon. It’s got some laugh-out-loud moments. The songs are all-too-memorable (who could forget Bless Your Beautiful Hide ?). If you’re a girl, no doubt you’ll have a favorite to watch among the girls (my favorite is the dark-haired one). Delightful!

Meet Me in St. Louis

My siblings and I only saw this movie once, over a year ago…and haven’t listened to the songs since. But we’re still singing them! Judy Garland is wonderful, and again, the songs are way too catchy. If you have no other reason to watch this…watch it for the costumes, because they’re beautiful and just what any girl would love to try on. Fun movie!

Spotlight: Gene Kelly

(note that this isn't quite a normal Spotlight post -- I'm doing an actor, instead of a movie character. But this guy doesn't have enough pictures of any single character for me to do that, so I'm doing him instead. P.S. I'm very sad...I haven't done a Spotlight since August! My apologies.)

(in Brigadoon, my favorite of the three Gene Kelly films I've seen)

(also from Brigadoon)

(yes, those are also Brigadoon pictures...there's more out there than I thought!)

(starting in on Singin' in the Rain pictures, from here on down to further notice. Love that smile!)

(he's on the far right)

(end of Singin' in the Rain pictures)

(beginning American in Paris pictures until further notice)

(end of American in Paris)

(those two are from The Pirate which I haven't seen yet)

(yes, that's him)

Movie: Brigadoon

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Main characters: Tommy, Fiona, Jeff
Genre: Romance
Primary actors: Gene Kelly, Cyd Charise, Van Johnson
Time period: 1950's, 1700's
Exciting events: A big chase
Year it came out: 1954
My overall opinion: This is one of my favorite movies. It's unique. It's a Scottish romance in a disappearing town...literally. You want to watch this one. :)
