Princess of the Silver Woods

Author: Jessica Day George

Genre: Fairy tale, fantasy

Series: Unknown

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 322

Time period: Fantasy

My overall opinion: While I love the cover of this beautiful book, I found the story to be somewhat disappointing. A unique combination of Little Red Riding Hood and the Twelve Dancing Princesses, it didn’t live up to the standard set by the first two books in the series. I know the author can do better, as she has evidenced in the delightful Tuesdays at the Castle. Having said that, however, this was a tolerably good book. It just didn’t grab me as much as I’d hoped it would.

Princess of Glass

Author: Jessica Day George
Genre: Fairy tale
Series: It’s a sequel to Princess of the Midnight Ball and they go together nicely, but you can read either on its own.
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 266
Time period: Fantasy
My overall opinion: Fascinating! It’s full of magic and excitement and mystery – all the great components for a book. It’s loosely based on Cinderella. If you like fairy tales, try this one.

Tuesdays at the Castle

Author: Jessica Day George

Genre: Fairy tale

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 225

Time period: Fantasy

My overall opinion: Great fun fairy tale! I love fairy tales, and this one is no exception. All the perfect elements combined here…magic, knights, adventure, bravery, and a highly imaginative yet almost believable story! And trust me – the latter is NOT easy to achieve. Great personages within the story, I enjoyed them all immensely. A wonderful book for any pre-teen, teen, or adult. Highly pleasurable!

Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow

Author: Jessica Day George
Genre: Fairy tale
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 317
Time period: Fantasy
My overall opinion: Oh, I did enjoy this book! It was a combination of “Beauty and the Beast” and “East of the Sun, West of the Moon” -- most delightful. The mystical fairy-tale element was perfect. I read it all in one day, in jus the late afternoon and evening; I liked it that much. Couldn’t put it down! Fun and interesting and clean. Good book. If you like fairy tale retellings, try this one! Can’t wait to read more by Jessica Day George!

Princess of the Midnight Ball

Author: Jessica Day George
Genre: Fairy tale!
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Type: Fiction
Time period: Fantasy
Main characters: Twelve princesses, one gardener, twelve evil princes, a wicked king, a good king, and many more! J Sound fun?
Exciting events: Oooo, yes!
My overall opinion: I enjoyed this retelling! One reviewer likened it to Gail Carson Levine’s Ella Enchanted and Beauty by Robin McKinley. They were similar! A re-told fairy tale. A fun read that I recommend to fairy-tale lovers!
