Birthday: Grace Livingston Hill

Grace Livingston Hill

Birth: April 16, 1865
Death: February 23, 1947
It’s her 147th birthday!
You know her because – she wrote over 100 books, almost all clean Christian romances. My favorite is Crimson Roses. Other good ones include Partners and Silver Wings, among many more.

The Obsession of Victoria Gracen

**no picture**

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Genre: Life
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 216
Time period: Early 1900’s
My overall opinion: I liked this! The word “sweet” completely does it justice. Not a romance, but the story of a kind older woman taking her young nephew under her wing, and leading him and his friends to the Lord.

The Honor Girl

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Genre: Life, romance
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: About 180
Time period: Early 1900’s
My overall opinion: This book doesn’t have as much romance as some of GLH’s, and is definitely one that stands out from the others. As usual, it was sweet and fun.

A Girl to Come Home To

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Genre: Romance
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: Fiction
Time period: 1940’s
My overall opinion: Another sweet GLH. This one is a soldier who returns home, and meets a delightful young woman, while being pursued by a former girlfriend (a nasty one too). It includes a prying cousin, bad girls, good girls, a nice brother for the soldier (and the brother’s a soldier too), etc. I enjoyed this one a lot.

The Best Man

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Genre: Romance
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 172
Time period: Early 1900’s
My overall opinion: Grace Livingston Hill is one of my favorite authors. J This book was distinctly different from many others of hers, a Secret Service guy who unwittingly gets married. Yeah, how do you unwittingly get married? Well, he did. A fun story!

A Voice in the Wilderness

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Genre: Romance
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 318
Time period: 1800's
Main characters: Margaret, a rough but amazing cowboy
Exciting events: Getting lost in the desert! A young elegant lady, at that!
Passage from book: With a lurch, the train came to a dead stop and Margaret Earle, hastily gathering up her belongings, hurried down the aisle and out into the night.
My overall opinion: What a fun book! I loved the story. A young girl who gets lost in the desert, is rescued by a rugged and handsome cowboy, much more. It was different from many other GLH's!

Type: Christian fiction
Time period: 1900's
