Michal

Author: Jill Eileen Smith
Genre: Life (and I really want to put Biblical fiction here…because it’s SO based on that)
Series: The Wives of King David
Number in series: 1st
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5 (actually 8.75)
Type: Historical fiction
Number of pages: 382
Time period: David’s time…so around 1000 B.C.
My overall opinion: Before I start, let me announce that this is one of the very first books that I EVER paid list price for. Because 90% of the time (probably more), if I buy a book, I buy it cheap from Amazon. Or I ask for it for Christmas. Or I find it free somewhere. Or I get a review copy. But I have enjoyed Jill Eileen Smith’s books Bathsheba and Sarai so much, that I paid full price for this one. So I’m really glad I liked it!

Bathsheba

Author: Jill Eileen Smith
Genre: Life, sort of romance
Series: The Wives of King David
Number in series: 3rd
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: Historical fiction (Biblical)
Number of pages: 346
Time period: Bible times
My overall opinion: Awesome book! The only other book I’ve read to date by Jill Eileen Smith is Sarai, and I liked that one too…I can’t wait to read Michal and Abigail in this series! I had previously avoided this book a bit because the story of Bathsheba and David isn’t exactly known for it’s purity. To my way of thinking, an author would have a hard time writing a Biblical fiction without going into that! However, I was delighted to find that it was all well handled. Even though their immorality can’t be avoided, it wasn’t described in detail, and both David and Bathsheba obviously repent afterwards. So far as I could tell, it was accurate Biblically. Of course, Jill added information, but she kept the Biblical facts – always good. Overall, if you like Biblical fiction, you will probably enjoy this!
