The Two Princesses of Bamarre

Author: Gail Carson Levine
Genre: Fairy tale (that type of story, it’s not a retelling of a classic)
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 293
Time period: Fantasy
My overall opinion: Gail Carson Levine’s stories rarely fail to charm me – this one was no exception. There are some of hers, I should mention, that I don’t really like (The Wish, Dave at Night, etc) but this one is a good one! My favorite by her is still Ella Enchanted (a Cinderella re-telling). However, if you enjoy fairy tale types of stories, try this fun book!

Ever

Author: Gail Carson Levine
Genre: Fantasy, romance
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 4
Type: Fiction
Number of pages: 244
Time period: Fantasy
Main characters: Olus, Kezi
Exciting events: Hmmm...
My overall opinion: Well, I came to this book fully expecting to love it. I have loved other books by Levine, so. However, I had multiple problems.
1. Gods. One of the main characters was immortal and a god. As a Christian, I can't accept this.
2. The romance. The characters were about 17 and 14. There was a lot of kissing, and at one point it sorta sounded like they were sleeping together. Obviously wrong.
3. This wasn't so much a problem as something interesting. It was written from both points of view. The chapters went back and forth, first from Olus's view, then from Kezi's. It was interesting for reading. Also they were in present tense.
So all in all, I can't recommend it. Don't read it.

Ella Enchanted

Author: Gail Carson Levine
Genre: Romance, fantasy, adventure
My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9
Type: fiction.
Time period: Fantasy.
Main characters: Ella, Char, Hattie, Olive
Exciting events: Almost being eaten by ogres, going to a giant wedding, being obedient
My overall opinion: Gail C. Levine is great at re-telling fairy tales. That's exactly what she did here; this one is a re-telling of Cinderella. It's a really great book and I highly recommend it!
