Revell Blog Tour: A Reluctant Courtship

Author: Laurie Alice Eakes

Genre: Life, romance, adventure

Series: Daughters of Bainbridge House

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 8.5 high

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 357

Time period: 1800s

Publisher and price: Revell, $14.99

My overall opinion: What a delightful read this book was! It’s an elegant story, full of entertaining mishaps and adventures – and never a slow moment to be found! I really loved the English settings and the mystery threaded throughout definitely made this story a winter. The humor was awesome too – just enough to keep me smiling without overpowering the book. If you’ve enjoyed Julie Klassen or Lori Wick, give this book a try. It was well-worth my time, and I think you’ll enjoy it too!

**Available October 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.**

**Revell was so kind as to send me a copy of this book in return for my honest review. I wasn’t compensated in any other way for this review, nor did I have to speak positively. I’m sorry for posting it later than the blog tour – school had to take precedence.**

Litfuse Blog Tour: Glittering Promises

Author: Lisa T. Bergren

Genre: Life, family, adventure, romance

Series: Grand Tour

Number in series: 3rd

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9 high

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 443

Time period: Early 1900s

Publisher and price: David C. Cook, $14.99

My overall opinion: I was so ridiculously happy when Lisa T. Bergren’s newest book arrived in my mailbox earlier this week – and when I finally had time to settle in and read it yesterday, I discovered my happiness was well-deserved. This book is worth buying, worth owning, and worth reading again and again. The adventures kept me turning pages as fast as I could read them. The romance was sweet, and I was glad Cora finally had a definite idea of what she was doing in that area. There was some mystery mixed in, some totally unexpected twists (seriously, you won’t see them coming), and all around? 400 pages of must-read book. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Italy, the early 1900s, the fancy grand tours of that time, Europe in general, a sweet Christian romance, or some exciting mystery!

**Litfuse and the publisher sent me a free copy of this book in return for my honest review. I was not recompensed in any other way, nor was I required to post positively. All opinions and thoughts are my own.**

TV Show: Merlin Season 1

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 9

Genre: Fantasy, adventure, life, romance

Series or set: Merlin

Number in series: 1st

Primary actors: Colin Morgan, Bradley James, Angel Coulby, Katie McGrath, Richard Wilson

Length: 13 episodes (approximately 43 minutes each)

Based on: King Arthur Pendragon and his wizard, Merlin, of lore

Time period: 1300s

Rating: Unknown – not bad

Year it came out: 2008

My overall opinion: I really love this series. Like, it’s possibly my favorite TV series of all time. This is my second time to watch Season 1, and I wasn’t disappointed! Merlin is such a nice guy, you can’t help but love him. And Arthur…well, as Merlin points out, he is rather a prat, but really, he’s also a very nice guy and I love the relationship he has with Merlin. I laugh often in this show – it’s great like that. Then Gwen…she’s such a sweet girl, and Morgana – well, seems nice enough but you soon learn otherwise. The magic is awesome, and while on this second time through, some of the creatures seemed rather obviously CG, for the most part? It’s not bad at all. So. Have I mentioned I love this show? There’s very little objectionable content. Each episode has a new adventure with one twist or another. The characters are amazing.

If you’re a fan of fantasy; King Arthur; magic; Merlin; romance; adventure; dragons; castles; knights in shining armor; suspense; or any combination of the above…you need to watch Merlin. All the seasons. But start here.
