Help!!!

Hey everyone! I'm not quite as desperate as I sound...probably. ;) Here's the deal. I recently learned from Elegance of Fashion's North and South movie review that Frederick Hale in the afore-mentioned movie and Frank Churchill in the 2009 Emma are the same actor. This is something I hadn't realized before...but after googling them both for pictures, yup. Definitely the same guy. So, I thought it would be fun to do a post of doubles...is this making any sense? For example. I would put in pictures of Frederick and Frank. (who are the same actor) I would include what movie they're from and who the actor is.

SO my question is...what other doubles are there? If you guys can't help me come up with many, I may not do the post. That's not a threat, just a statement. :) Oh! Just thought of one. Mr. Elton in 2009 Emma and Edmund in Mansfield Park. I'm not sure which one...Fanny is blond with large lips. :P (any of you know which year?) And another...Sir Ian McKellen who acts as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and Chauvelin in Scarlet Pimpernel. Both movies I love.

Got the idea? What doubles can you think of? Thanks in advance!

I was thinking about doing something like this, but I ended up deciding against it. I'm glad someone is doing this; I always find it fun to see who I recognize in period dramas.

Hmmm... Doubles doubles.... Michael Gambon was Emma's father in Emma (2009), Mr. Holbrook in Cranford, King George V in The King's Speech, and Squire Hamley in Wives and Daughters. Colin Firth was Mr. Darcy in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, Jack Worthing in Importance of Being Earnest, and King George VI in The King's Speech. Matthew Macfayden was Mr. Darcy in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice (except I can't stand that version), Arthur Clennam in Little Dorrit (he did a really good job in Little Dorrit), and Sir Felix in The Way We Live Now. Miranda Otto was in Lord of the Rings and in The Way We Live Now. Alan Rickman was Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility and Mr. Slope in The Barchester Chronicles. Andy Serkis was in Lord of the Rings and Little Dorrit. Romola Garai was Emma in the 2009 Emma, Gwendolen Harleth in Daniel Deronda, and she was in Amazing Grace (still need to watch that movie).

Sorry that was a long comment. Once I got started naming people, it was hard to stop. If you need more, I'll be glad to help!

Oooh! And the version of Mansfield Park with the blond Fanny was from 2007. The 1999 version had Johnny Lee Miller who was also Mr. Knightley in Emma (2009); I'd never seen that version, but I heard it wasn't too good.

Mansfield Park 2007.
Oh there's so many! The lovely thing about period dramas is that many great British actors appear in different roles in my favorite period films. Think of actor Sir Michael Gambon for example. He was in Wives & Daughters as Squire Hamley, Cranford as Mr. Holbrook and in Emma 2009 as Mr. Woodhouse.
A few of my other favorites are actress Anna Maxwell Martin who was Bessy Higgins in North & South, Esther Summerson in Bleak House and as Cassandra Austen in Becoming Jane. Actress Carey Mulligan who is beautiful as Kitty Bennet in Pride & Prejudice 2005 and as Isabella Thorpe in Nothanger Abbey 2007. Matthew Macfadyen who was Mr. Darcy in P&P 2005 and Arthur Clenham in Little Dorrit.
If you're interested you can check out this page at my website Austen Efforts which lists actors who have been in multiple Jane Austen adaptations here (http://austenefforts.bravehost.com/who.html).
Also I made a photo album of period film actors on Old-Fashioned Charm's Facebook fanpage that lists what period films the actors have been in. I tried to put only actors who have been in 3 or more period films. Take a look here (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.197615410277066.42092.160136964024911).

I hope this helps, I'd love to see a post that you come up with of some of your favorite period drama actors! :)

I just remembered: Julia Sawalha was Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice (1995), Jessie Brown in Cranford, and Dorcas Lane in Lark Rise to Candleford.

And since we like Emma so well, Romola Garai was on Nicholas Nickleby (2002) and Amazing Grace. :)

And, there would me more actor stuff on my Little Dorrit post as well.

Keeley Hawes: Cynithia Kirkpatrick (Wives & Daughters) and Fancy Day(Under the Greenwood Tree)

Justine Waddell: Molly Gibson (Wives and Daughters), Estella(Great Expectations 1999), Tess Durbeyfield (Tess of the D'Urberville's 1998) and Julia Bertram (Mansfield Park 1999)

JJ Feild: *The lovely* Mr Henry Tilney (Northanger Abbey 2007) and Frank Cheeryble (The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby 2001)

James McAvoy: Tom Lefroy (Becoming Jane) and Sergeant Bloxham (Lorna Doone)

I'm sure there are heaps more too :) sorry for the long post!

Melody had just reminded me about Little Dorrit. James Fleet was John Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Frederick Dorrit in Little Dorrit. Bill Paterson was Mr. Gibson in Wives and Daughters and Mr. Meagles in Little Dorrit. Harriet Walter was Fanny Dashwood in Sense and Sensiblity (1995), Mrs. Gowan in Little Dorrit, and she was also in Hard Times as Rachel (though I didn't really like Hard Times). Robert Hardy was Sir John Middleton in Sense and Sensibility (1995), General Tilney in Northanger Abbey (1987), Arthur Brooke in Middlemarch, and had a small appearance in Little Dorrit as Mr. Tite Barnacle. Greg Wise was Willoughby in Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Sir Charles Maulver in Cranford. Imelda Staunton was Mrs. Palmer in Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Miss Pole in Cranford. Barbara Flynn was Mrs. Jamieson in Cranford, Mrs. French in He Knew He Was Right, Sarah Ridd in Lorna Doone (never seen it, though), Miss Browning in Wives and Daughters, and Mary Bold in The Barchester Chronicles.

I was just going to mention Justine Waddell, but Tristans_Isolde beat me to it. ;) I might add though, Keeley Hawes I also saw on The Moonstone (which I liked, by the way...It's a classic mystery type movie, I think it's known as the first of that type [pre-Sherlock Holmes, I guess].) And, her hair was not as shocking when she was Rachel Verinder on The Moonstone as Cynthia on Wives and Daughters! O.O

Oh yeah, and the main guy -Franklin Blake- was on the moonstone, and he also played Willoughby on S&S, and Sir somebody on Cranford (Greg Wise), although I mentioned that one on my S&S actors post. :)

I'll probably think of more... there are way to many. haha

There's also Brenden Coyle, who was Nicholas Higgins in North and South, Robert Timmins in Lark Rise to Candleford, and John Bates in Downton Abbey.
