Question about Harry Potter

Hey everyone!

As you may have guessed, I'm not really into Harry Potter. I could go into it, but I don't think I will. I have never read the books or seen even pre-views of the movies. Most of my friends are pretty much like me, but I know a few people who really think I should both read and watch Harry Potter.

So what I'm asking you, my blogging friends, is "What do you think of Harry Potter?" Have you read it? Seen them? What are your thoughts?

I'm curious. :)

Like you I've never read the books or seen the movies (I've seen previews though). I've heard that the books are very well written and most of the people I know who have read them loved them. The movies are popular but they probably don't follow the books that well and there's more of a chance for questionable scenes to be shown.
Personally the Harry Potter books in my mind are similar to the Twilight books - I believe that vampires and wizardry go against God's word and that those books promote a glorified view of these pagan practices. And there are likely to be more themes in them that may go against God's Word. The books may be fun to read but they are not spiritually edifying.
Charity, you don't have to post this comment if you don't want to, I don't want to start a debate. I just wanted to share with you what I truly believe, as you seem to be a young woman of like minded faith.

God Bless,
Miss Laurie

Charity,

Well, I haven't read them or seen the movies, but I have a few friends who talk about them a lot... (you know who I mean), but really, there's no real "point" to the books, they're fiction, and wants to read about witchcraft and such when the Bible is against it? I know that in LotR, the Wizards use magic, but I don't believe it is the same thing or the same context as used in Harry Potter, if you get what I mean...

AND, the way the magic is portrayed in the books, it could be possibly "used" by other people. I mean, there ARE real-life witches, so why should write/read books about things that are not to be taken lightly? I could say more, but... I'll let others give their opinion. :D

Charity,

Good question! I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books or watched any of the movies, and never will. I'm not into fantasy and witchcraft and don't care for books that have people with magical powers, spells, fortune telling, and what not.

It's kinda neat that you should mention it this week, because last Sunday my pastor mentioned the Harry Potter books. He said that while Harry is painted out to be the good guy, going after the bad witches and whatnot....he is still a witch. And witchcraft, spells, and such are of the Devil.

All in all, it was a pretty interesting part of the sermon that I paid close attention to. :-)

In the past, the reason I had never read them was because 1) I don't like that kind of fiction and 2) I heard that the witchcraft and spells in those books are real. But after hearing my pastor talk about it and the allegory he gave, I am convinced.

Well, there are my (lengthy, I am afraid) thoughts on the Harry Potter series. I hope I haven't offended any HP fans that read your blog, Charity. This is just my opinion of them and my convictions.

You probably already knew this, but I haven't read the books or seen the movies. The closest I've gotten is watching a preview of one movie. So...I don't have any thoughts. :P

In my opinion, which is very humble, you shouldn't get into them. :) They are okay, but you could spend your time with better reading materiel.

Thanks for asking.

I'm not into Harry Potter. I've never read the books or watched the movies. But it's not like I ever plan to. Personally, I don't think Harry Potter's...uh, good. But as I said, that's my personal opinion. I'm quite curius to see what other people say about it, too.

Thanks, ladies, for all the comments!

I was already pretty sure that I wouldn't want to read or watch them, and now I'm convinced. :)

Again, thank you!

Since you're already conviced, I'll add my thoughts...

Really, since HP is all about witchcraft, I'd never touch it with a 10-foot-pole. The Bible clearly states that witchcraft, sorcery, etc. is all the devil's work. I know some Christians seem to think that it's all just make-believe, but really, it's very very evil.

On top of that, any clip I've seen of a preview, all the pictures, etc. look so scary and evil they make me sick already. o.o

Oh, and Charity, tooottttally off the subject, were we going to do that introductory post? o.O

Charity U said...

Melody, YES! An introductory post ought to be coming soon. I need to work on that...got a lot on my mind right now, since Mom and Dad aren't home and there are four kids younger than me to keep out of fights and to keep entertained. :P We're having fun, but it's very busy...

HOWEVER, I'm going to try and get that out today.

Okay. :) I think I answered all your questions, unless you wanted to add the one you weren't sure of. (Because I didn't really answer that one.)
Did you hear back from Miss Bennet?

Yes I did. I'm working on the post right now!
