Graceling

Author: Kristin Cashore

Genre: Adventure

My rating on a 1-10 scale: 6.5

Type: Fiction

Number of pages: 471

Time period: Fantasy

My overall opinion: I was disappointed. Graceling was well-written and riveting, BUT. The message that I really picked up about half way through was this: you don’t have to marry someone, you don’t have to commit to them! Just live with them. It’s fine. And while I realize that this is the world’s view today, I was deeply disappointed to find it so blatantly stated in a book meant for teens! There were also a few places with a little too much detail for my preference – not explicit, but not good. I wouldn’t read it again, and I don’t recommend it.

I read that book a couple of months ago, and I was not even impressed with the writing. I like the concept, but the first cringe-worthy moment was Po's name. The first "WHAT THE HECK?" moment was when they...yeah. Not a good book. I wouldn't even give it a six.

Oh, yes, thanks for the reminder. Po...dreadful name. I associate it with Edgar Allan Poe, whose poetry I generally dislike. :P And...I really couldn't take the dude seriously with a name like that.
