Cover Focus: Short-Straw Bride

Short-Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer

Book blurb from goodreads.com : No one steps on Archer land. Not if they value their life. But when Meredith Hayes overhears a lethal plot to burn the Archer brothers off their ranch, a twelve-year-old debt compels her to take the risk.
Fourteen years of constant vigilance hardens a man. Yet when Travis Archer confronts a female trespasser with the same vivid blue eyes as the courageous young girl he once aided, he can't bring himself to send her away. And when an act of sacrifice leaves her injured and her reputation in shreds, gratitude and guilt send him riding to her rescue once again.
Four brothers. Four straws. One bride. Despite the fact that Travis is no longer the gallant youth Meredith once dreamed about, she determines to stand by his side against the enemy that threatens them both. But will love ever be hers? Or will Travis always see her merely as a short-straw bride?”

Why I like this cover: I love all of Karen Witemeyer’s covers, and this one not least of all. I like the bubble that the title is in…it’s so pretty! And the font is the perfect color. Then the girl. Meredith. She looks so very inquisitive! I have a feeling that when she wants to know something, she figures it out. And her hair is up in that half-up style that’s so pretty – especially with the long curls. Did you notice all the buttons on her sleeves? And the lace at her throat? While her outfit isn’t completely practical for farm life, the skirt at least does appear to be. Very basic green skirt. And then the guy. I love that half-smile – I think he might be laughing at her, very quietly. Brown jeans, plaid shirt, rusty red vest. And then the straws that he’s holding in his hands. All perfect. I love this cover!
On a side note…I can’t wait to read this book someday! I’ve only read one book by Karen Witemeyer (Head in the Clouds) and I loved it. Looking forward to reading more!
On another side note…this book comes out on June 1, 2012, from Bethany House.

Karen's covers are always amazing and I think this one is my favorite so far. Meredith's outfit is gorgeous! I'm loving your cover focuses as the cover is often one of my favorite parts about a book.

A Tailor-Made Bride and To Win Her Heart are just as good as Head in the Clouds. You need to get your hands on them ASAP!

God Bless

I can't wait for this book to come out so I can read it too.
I think Karen Witemeyer's books are so lovely and the covers really are some of the best I've seen. I read 'Head in the Clouds' for the first time just last week and absolutely loved it, although 'To Win Her Heart' is still definitely my favourite of the ones she has written.

I love period romances and this one was set in the American West. When Meredith Hayes hears the man who wants to marry her say he is going to burn down a neighbor's barn, she takes matters into her own hands and goes to warn him. Unfortunately, he has his place booby-trapped and guarded to keep out undesirables. Meredith is caught by Travis Archer and his brothers and just manages to convince them she just wants to warn them about the fire. She gets hurt and has to stay at the Archer homestead without a chaperone. This, of course, shreds her reputation and Travis, being the gentleman he is, decides he is the one to marry her. This book reminded me of the old romantic comedy westerns that I loved growing up.
